Chairman's Recap of the 2023 AirVenture GAA Ceremonies
Versailles, Kentucky - August 10, 2023 - Dinner at Becket’s Restaurant in Oshkosh on Wednesday night, July 26, opened this year’s celebration of the General Aviation Awards. GAA hosted the 2023 Honorees, Robert Raskey, 2023 National Flight Instructor, William Ross, 2023 National Aviation Technician, and Dennis Miller, 2023 National FAASTeam Representative, their spouses, and family members together with Board members Sandya Narayanswami, Greg Feith and Mary Schu. Special guests included John Goglia of Flight Safety Detectives (https://flightsafetydetectives.com) and Lauretta Webb of the Wings Industry Network (https://www.wingsindustry.com). The dinner allowed board members to meet the Honorees in an easy social setting before the Awards.
The Awards were held as usual at the FAA Safety Building on Thursday, July 27. Greg Feith Emceed and did his usual excellent job of introducing the Honorees, highlighting their extraordinary accomplishments, and adding funny stories about each one where appropriate. The event was well attended, with several former GAA Board Members and past Honorees in the audience. The GAA Board would like to thank Patricia Mathes and her staff at the FAA Safety Center for their help in making it all come together on the day.
The Awards were followed by “Meet the Administrator” at The Theater in the Woods. Deputy Administrator Kathryn “Katie” Thomson introduced the Honorees and presented them with their plaques. Meet the Administrator is always a packed event, and was so this year, too, with many GA enthusiasts waiting to hear the panel session. Again, the GAA Board would like to thank EAA Liaison Rob Hackman and his team for their help in coordinating our event successfully.
A luncheon in the Baby Aces Tent closed the day. Mary Schu did the Honors. We want to thank TPI for doing an excellent job catering the event and EAA for the use of the tent. Seeing old friends from the Board and previous Honorees was great fun. Finally, and most importantly, GAA would like to thank its generous supporters and sponsors, several of whom came to the luncheon and all of whom are acknowledged with gratitude.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
- Sandya Narayanswami, PhD, Chairman of the Board
